Cheap Holidays to Lake Garda

Lake Garda is a stunning destination in Northern Italy which sees thousands of visitors each year who come to relax, unwind and take in the breathtaking views in every direction you look. On top of this, Lake Garda boasts a selection of charming towns, incredible landscapes and plenty of sightseeing to do.

Due to there being so many small towns and villages to explore, we recommend sticking to one or two for each day of your trip. This way, you are ticking off the boxes and seeing as much as the lake has to offer without compromising on enjoying the unique culture, views and attractions of each place.

A Great Place

A great place to begin is Sirmione which is probably the most popular town surrounding Lake Garda. It is wise to spend a full day here with so many things to do and see. Grotte di Catulo shows the excavated ruins of an old Roman villa on the headland and the 13th century Rocca Scaligera Castle is also well worth a visit. Taking the boat to Sirmione is a top tip as the traffic around the town is usually quite busy and cars are not permitted in the historical centre of the town.

Malcesine would be our other top choice when choosing which towns to explore around Lake Garda. It is known to be one of the most beautiful areas surrounding the lake with incredible views for as far as the eye can see. There is a cable car to take you to the top of Monte Baldo as well as the tower of Castello Scaligero which provides amazing views of the area. There are also plenty of shops, stores and cafes to enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this part of the world.

Lake Garda Offers

Lake Garda offers a wide variety of accommodation options with all budgets catered for. The most expensive options tend to be located closer to the lake and the busier towns such as the ones mentioned above. However, these usually offer the best views from your bedroom as well as good accessibility to everything that the resort offers. Villas, apartments, studios, B&Bs and the occasional hotel are all available around Lake Garda.

The best time to visit is generally considered to be around May until September. This is when the weather is the most warm and reliable and as a result, the maximum amount of activities are on offer. For example, the cable car is not available during poor weather and photos don’t tend to look as good either when it is gloomy rather than sunny. The closest airport to Lake Garda is Verona Airport with both train and bus connection options available. The journey on a coach lasts about an hour.
