Chamrousse ski & snowboard holidays take you to a purpose built resort in the Belledonne Mountains of south-eastern France close to Grenoble. It hosted events in the 1968 winter olympics and as a consequence has some very steep downhill runs. The resort is comprised of two levels both at high altitudes of over sixteen hundred metres with the highest lifts reaching almost twenty-three hundred metres. Le Recoins is the lower of the two and Roches Beranger the higher. Chamrousse is a popular destination for families, novices and intermediate skiers. It is a pleasantly relaxed resort with good facilities.
As a high altitude resort, Chamrousse has a consistantly good snow record. The highest lift reaches over twenty-two thousand metres. The resort has ninety-two kilometres of piste, the majority of which are easy. It is a great choice for those who are new to the sport as the gentle slopes on the Arselle plateau are ideal for confidence building. The red runs provide for intermediates and with some long tree-lined runs. There are few difficult runs for advanced skiers & boarders but those that are there are quite demanding including the Casse Rousse Piste. There are also opportunities for off-piste skiing. For your own safety, you should hire an experienced mountain guide when you go off-piste. There is a snow park for boarders and the open plateau also gives them ideal conditions. Cross country skiers have thirty seven kilometres of groomed trails.
The season lasts from the third week in December until the beginning of April. The summer months are popular with hill walkers, climbers and mountain bikers. Many regional airports have direct flights to Grenoble and Lyon. Transfer times are a little under two hours for the former and a little under three for the latter.
