Kerala is a beautiful region of southern India which is becoming increasingly popular with tourists from all over the world. Often referred to as “God’s Own Country” due to its vast array of unspoiled tropical beauty, Kerala has something to offer everyone. Stunning beaches, mountain walks and a charming culture are just a few of the things to expect on your next trip to Kerala.
One of the best places to begin on your trip to Kerala is the city of Kochi. It is a buzzing city with the ideal blend of beach and jungle. The city isn’t too touristy either which means you can spend more time enjoying the local culture and more specifically, the unique cuisine of the city. Bananas, coconuts and tamarinds are often added to classic Indian dishes that usually don’t include them, so they are certainly worth trying while you’re there!
A tranquil and relaxing attraction in Kerala that we highly recommend is a houseboat trip along the Kerala canals, also known as the Kerala backwaters. Relax on your very own boat, cruise the canals and you can even bring your own food and drink onboard to complete the experience. If it’s a beach you are after, look no further than Marari Beach which is one of the best in the region.
Accommodation sizes, styles and prices vary all across Kerala. You can stay here extremely cheaply in hostels and some hotels or you can also stay in the height of luxury with plush resorts. Even if you are looking for somewhere in between, there are lots of choices to pick from.
Between September and March is generally the recommended time to visit Kerala. This is when the climate is at its most comfortable, most stable and there is less humidity in the air. Temperatures are still very pleasant and it just means there is more enjoyment in all of the activities when you aren’t struggling against the heat of other times of the year. Cochin Airport is the main international airport for Kerala but there are also 3 other small ones to choose from if necessary.
