Kolocep is one of the larger of the stunning Croatian Elaphite Islands. It is where many people go to relax and enjoy a relatively secluded part of the world with plenty of sunshine. Particularly in the summer months, the waters around Kolocep are warm and calm - making them ideal for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving.
Kolocep is also classed as one of Dubrovnik’s islands and makes a day trip or two very easy to do. The island is located just 5km away from Gruz, Dubrovnik’s main ferry port. Although spending a day at the beach kayaking, swimming and sunbathing are the best things to do here, there are also a few sights to see. St Anthony and St Nicholas churches date back to the 15th century and the ‘Blue Cave’ is a popular swimming spot.
This island is best experienced over a couple of days. This will give you enough time to enjoy the beach, explore both small towns on the island and even have the opportunity to sample some local food and wines. With Dubrovnik being so close and such an incredible city in itself, we recommend you visit here at least once.
Best Time To Holiday In Kolocep
Accommodation on Kolocep is quite limited simply due to the small size and population of the island. There are private rooms and apartments to rent in both of the island’s main villages. Most houses provide sea views though which is a big bonus.
The best time for a holiday to Kolocep is from May until October. This is when temperatures are at their highest and there is the most opportunity to enjoy the beach-related activities. July and August are very busy with families with kids, which may be a time that you want to target or to avoid. Outside of these summer months, temperatures are a bit cooler which might be ideal if you plan to do a lot of walking and exploring. The island is easy to reach from Dubrovnik airport via coach/car and then a short ferry journey.
