Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The capital of the Czech Republic is an extremely popular tourist destination all year round, with attractions and events to suit all weathers and seasons. Today we review the city, things to see, things to avoid and two great places to stay based on different budgets. We'll make your next trip to Prague the best it possibly can be!
Charles Bridge is arguably the most popular tourist attraction in Prague. A pedestrian route connecting the castle and the Old Town across the River Vltava, the bridge is where the majority of Prague's postcard images come from. The bridge is lined with people selling arts and crafts, performers and scintillating views on either side. However, the bridge gets extremely crowded during the day, so a dusk or dawn visit is highly recommended!
The Old Town is featured on one side of the Charles Bridge and is home to some of the finest architecture in all of Europe. It is also home to the famous astronomical clock, constructed in 1410 making it the third oldest in the world still functioning! The clock's significance and preservation is deep-rooted in the city of Prague. Similar to the bridge, the Old Town is full of street performers and there is always something going on. It is advised to eat away from the centre though, as prices can be quite extortionate compared to places slightly further out.
Prague castle is another notable landmark across the city's skyline and combines a mixture of traditional values with modern entertainment. From a traditional point of view, it is recommended to see the Changing of the Guards and take a stroll through the Castle Gardens, a very peaceful experience when the weather allows it! On the slightly more modern aspect of things, Prague Castle offers concerts (sometimes free!) where top performers play songs from Bach and Beethoven. This really is the place to immerse yourself into the 'City of Music'.
Having stayed in this hostel personally when I was traveling, I cannot recommend it enough. The location is enough out of town to avoid the hustle and bustle but is only 5 mins from a tram stop straight into the centre. The staff are friendly, the bedrooms are good quality and it even has an indoor pool! And of course the price is one of the best for value in the whole of the city. If you're looking to stay in Prague for less, this is the place to be!
Situated right on the doorstep of Prague's main attractions, the Hotel Residence Agnes is the number 1 hotel to stay in the city (TripAdvisor). It offers complimentary drinks on arrival, unrivaled information and guidance on the city, outstanding guest services and room qualities. Complimentary transport across the city is also offered as part of the package. With the hotel going above and beyond the call of duty at all opportunities, it is little wonder that this is the best the capital has to offer.
